DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders, ages 10-21, who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohio's 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS, youth are engaged in programming that is designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. DYS reaches thousands of youth in facilities and those on parole.

The Opportunity…

DYS is seeking a Health Information Technician 1 at Indian River Juvenile Correctional facility to maintain accurate and complete health information records, and to prepare statistical reports. 

Duties include, but not limited to\: 

  • Receives, reviews incoming youth confidential medical files to ensure files are in proper order as outlined in medical protocol, policy & procedures placement in files.
  • Maintains youth medical records, youth medical charts & other confidential medical documents as required by policy, timely files all medical documentation; reviews youth charts to ensure all reports & signatures are present
  • Files reports into health information records, records information in logs & files & retrieves health information records in filing system.
  • Enters medical date into the Departments Chronic Care Database.
  • Reviews youth medical classification & notes any pending appointments, maintains logs of all medical appointments (i.e. on site and off grounds)
  • Provides secretarial assistance and clerical support in the medical clinic by performing routine administrative tasks.

Preferred Qualifications…

·     Leadership, commitment to excellence, professionalism, strong interpersonal communication skills, good judgment of people and situations, change agent, excellent customer service, trauma-responsive, and solution driven.

3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in records management; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in medical terminology; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:

All final candidates are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio.  This training is fully paid for and will cover lodging, transportation (if needed) and meals.  Training takes place for 3 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5PM with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off.
