Job Description:
Reporting to the Primary Health Care Manager, the Dental Health Educator - Senior specializes in stimulating, coordinating, and delivering prenatal/preschool oral health promotion activities aimed at reducing disease and promoting oral health for people in the community. Incumbents must have an ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams. This position will work collaboratively with Population Health Unit Dental Health Educator to ensure ongoing standard of care.The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate the delivery of an active prenatal/preschool preventive oral health education and promotion program within the dental professional’s scope of practice.The incumbent will supervise dental staff and provide management of the NW1 Dental Program."Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.

Education
- Graduate from a recognized Dental Therapy program
Competencies:
Experience:
- Experience in health promotion/prevention strategies

3 years of experience as a dental health educator
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to develop and present oral health education/training to various groups
- Knowledge in Infection Prevention and Control standards
- Ability to travel on remote roads or fly in small aircraft to remote communities
- Ability to address health-related issues or life skills, other than oral health
- Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Ability to problem solve with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of oral health principles & their relationship to health and disease
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting
- Ability to develop and present oral health education/training to various groups
- Skills such as team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitation to build partnerships across professions, health authorities, jurisdictions, sectors, and with individuals, communities and other agencies.
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work in isolated areas, as required
