We are seeking a dynamic Health Educator to help strengthen community health through evidence-based prevention and wellness programs, including tobacco cessation, chronic disease prevention, injury prevention, environmental health, and health equity initiatives. Working collaboratively with community partners and coalitions, this position promotes healthy behaviors, supports policy development, data assessment and advances the overall well-being of Tooele County residents.

MAJOR DUTIES
Community Health Education & Program Delivery
- Design, implement, and evaluate culturally responsive health education programs on topics including:
- Tobacco use prevention and cessation
- Nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevention
- Chronic disease prevention
- Mental and behavioral health
- Intentional and unintentional injury prevention
- Environmental health (e.g., air quality, radon, food safety, water quality, lead poisoning prevention)
Youth and School-Based Education
- Develop and deliver classroom presentations and school-based programs.
- Facilitate youth advocacy and leadership initiatives promoting healthy behaviors.
Tobacco Prevention & Retail Compliance
- Manage underage tobacco compliance checks in partnership with law enforcement.
- Provide education and technical support to tobacco retailers to ensure regulatory compliance.
Smoking Cessation Support
- Deliver tobacco cessation education and coaching to individuals, groups, and organizations using current methodologies.
Injury Prevention Initiatives
- Implement injury prevention programs including Safe Kids, car seat safety checks, suicide prevention, and violence reduction.
- Serve as a certified Car Seat Technician (or obtain certification upon hire).
Policy and Advocacy Engagement
- Support local and regional policy efforts, including smoke-free ordinances and other public health policies.
- Facilitate coalition meetings and engage stakeholders in policy development and advocacy.
Grant and Program Management
- Coordinate grant-funded initiatives including budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
- Use data to assess impact, inform continuous improvement, and support funding renewals.
Public Communication & Outreach
- Represent the department at community events, public forums, and city council meetings.
- Develop and disseminate public health messaging via media campaigns, newsletters, and presentations.
Community Collaboration and Partnership Building
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with local agencies, healthcare providers, schools, law enforcement, housing authorities, and community groups.
- Promote equity-focused approaches and culturally tailored health programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Promotion, Nursing, Lifestyle Management, or a closely related field.
AND
- Two years of professional health education experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of substance uses effects, public health practices, health education, behavior change, community assessment, and use of media and educational tools for promoting community health.
- Skills: Skills in delivering presentations to individuals and groups; Considerable skill in communicating verbally and in writing; Basic computer and word processing skills.
- Abilities: Work independently to develop educational materials and programs, assess and address community health needs, communicate effectively with diverse audiences (people from a variety of social, ethnic, economic, educational, and professional backgrounds), manage challenging interactions, and build strong partnerships with agencies, providers, schools, and community leaders.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a non-smoker and non-tobacco user.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
