Mō te whakahaere | About Us
He kaupapa Māori, he oranga mō te whānau – Join us in creating healthier futures for our people
Te Manu Toroa (the albatross which glides across the ocean) was established in 1997 to provide a Kaupapa Māori model of health care for Māori in the Mai i Ngā Kurī-a-Whārei ki Ōtamarākau rohe (Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Katikati and Te Puke – the Western Bay of Plenty). We are a member of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga PHO, a Whānau Ora collective focused on improving whānau health and wellbeing across Tauranga Moana.
We provide holistic care through our two GP clinics and a wide range of services including Pēpi Ora/Well Child, Kaupapa Māori Nursing, Oral Health, Mental Health, and Whānau-Centred Services. Our purpose is to support our community to be healthy, confident, empowered, and active contributors to their whānau and communities. Guided by our indigenous Tūāpapa system of care, our goal is to ensure accessible, affordable, comprehensive, and integrated health services for the people of the Western Bay of Plenty.
We are seeking a committed and compassionate Health Coach to walk alongside individuals and whānau on their wellbeing journey.
Description
Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Role
As a Health Coach, you will work alongside whānau who are experiencing challenges affecting their physical, emotional, or social wellbeing. This is a practical, relationship-focused role where you partner with individuals and groups to identify what matters most to them, support goal-setting, and build self-management skills that promote long-term wellbeing.
You will provide culturally safe, accessible support both within the general practice and in community settings. The role involves strengthening health literacy, supporting positive lifestyle change, connecting whānau to local community and cultural resources, and contributing to group programmes where appropriate.
Working as part of a Whānau Care Team, you will collaborate closely with Health Improvement Practitioners, Cultural Support Workers and clinical staff to ensure seamless pathways of care. Accurate documentation and participation in supervision, training and ongoing model development are also key aspects of the role.
You will also be part of a broader collective delivering the IPMHA model in ways that align with kaupapa Māori values.
