Nature and Scope:

Reporting to the Manager, Athletic Operations - Facilities & Fitness , the incumbent is responsible for effectively communicating and enforcing all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the use of the Athletics and Recreation Centre. Their primary focus is on meeting customer needs and helping in a courteous manner. They strive to establish personal connections by greeting and addressing members by name, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. Additionally, they lead by example to maintain a clean and safe facility. The incumbent aims for outstanding personal performance through effective communication, enthusiasm, and competence.They also play a key role in training, developing, and mentoringAthletics and Recreation Attendant , and Placement students. They actively inspire and motivate students to take ownership of their health and well-being. The position also requires that the incumbent establish harmonious and productive relationships with the Students’ Association board, staff, college officials, student groups and the outside community.


Job Duties

  • Greet, inform, and acknowledge members as they enter and exit the facility, fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Organize and verify the daily schedule of services, activities, and events, which include group orientations, facility tours, fitness classes, personal training sessions, and incentive programs.
  • Onboard new members by recommending and demonstrating exercises, equipment, programs, individual and group orientations.
  • Independently plan, deliver, and evaluate personal training sessions and/or group fitness classes in accordance with industry standards and ARC policies.
  • Responsible for the efficient organization, delivery and scheduling of innovative motivational campaigns, fitness classes, personal training and special events
  • Ensures all policies, rules and regulations are communicated, monitored and enforced regarding the use of the facility in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Member engagement by circulating and promoting  ARC services by  being available and visible to members.
  • Provides group training, fitness correction and instruction by modelling appropriate behaviours through actions and will motivate and encourage members with constructive feedback.
  • Maintains a clean, organized workstation and fitness areas and supports in the day to day cleanliness of the facility.
  • Ensures monthly reports are completed for efficient tracking of incentive programs, workshops, orientations, and written programs.
  • Collaborates with the Communications and Events Coordinator to ensure that services and information are promoted sensitively.
  • Assists with training and scheduling of part-time employees.
  • Follows operational procedures for properly handling and securing cash and deposits at the front desk.
  • Performs laundry duties to accommodate day to day requirements.
  • Notifies the Manager of any equipment malfunctions or damage and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  • Assists with repairs, cleaning and preventative maintenance of fitness equipment.
  • Identifies areas of service improvement and forwards recommendations to the Manager.
  • Reports day-to-day compliance of members and facility issues regarding policies and practices to Manager.
  • Remains knowledgeable of current industry trends to ensure continued personal growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate would have a Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotions or a University degree in Physical Health and Education/Kinesiology or a related fiel
  • Minimum of two years experience relative to the Fitness Industry.
  • Personal Trainer, Coach or Fitness Instructor Certification from a recognized certifying body.
  • Ability to recommend exercise and fitness activities to a range of age groups and members of different physical abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-initiating work ethic.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fitness operations.
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Strong leadership and confidence with energetic interpersonal skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.


Compensation:

  • This position is part of CUPE Local 5154 – Level 5 ($33.93-$37.71) Employees who are full-time internal candidates, as defined by the CUPE 5154 Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration
  • This position is a full-time position, 35 hours a week.
