Introduction

Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. Over the past several decades, CHS has played a major role in leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence-based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.

CHS has five major sections – Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental-Occupational and Climate Change (EOHCC), and Non-Communicable Diseases & Mental Health.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • develop and conduct educational and training programs at the appropriate level for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students at AKU in the area of health economics and health care financing. These will include basic courses in health economics, costing and cost-effectiveness analysis, and health care financing strategies

  • develop and deliver, as part of the continuing education program, tailored educational offerings in health economics and financing targeted at mid- and senior-level managers and policymakers in the health and financing sectors

  • establish and lead a research program in health economics and financing at the Aga Khan University, including costing and unit cost analysis, economic appraisal of public health interventions, and testing of various demand- and supply-side health financing interventions, particularly in low- and limited-resource settings

  • conduct health expenditure and utilization surveys, as well as a range of health economics outcomes analyses and modelling activities, in conjunction with outcomes-based research projects

  • coordinate and advise national and sub-national governments on evidence-informed health financing strategies, including health insurance programs that promote efficiency and equity in health system financing

  • collaborate with research scientists and key stakeholders, nationally and internationally, to promote AKU as a center of high-level expertise in health economics and financing.

Requirements:

The positions require a proven track record of academic abilities , including a deep knowledge of innovative teaching methodologies tailored to diverse student needs are required. Moreover the applicant should have skills in planning and organising curricula, with a strong grasp of academic administration. Preference will be given to those having experience in hybrid teaching and learning mode.

Additionally, exceptional research achievements, with publications, successful grant writing, and impactful research in the field. Leadership qualities with the ability to build and sustain effective teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment along with an excellent command of both verbal and written English and Urdu languages, with an additional proficiency in local/regional languages will be considered an asset for this role.

Additionally, applicants for:

Assistant Professor; should have completed Ph.D in Health Economics and or a MPhil or master’s degree in health economics or Financing from an internationally recognized University, with five years experience at the level of Senior Instructor. Must have demonstrated high quality teaching capacity preferably as Senior Instructor. Has defined an area of scholarly focus and has begun to build a body of work as demonstrated through publication, presentation, change to practice or policy and/or other forms of dissemination.Β
