Job Summary: The Environmental/Safety Field Technician is a perfect position for those transitioning into a construction safety and health career path. The Environmental/Safety Field Technician is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety systems and procedures to ensure a safe working environment across all project phases. This role involves conducting hazard assessments, analyzing job safety processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively identifying risks to prevent workplace injuries and incidents.

Working closely with project teams, operations, and EH&S personnel, the Environmental/Safety Field Technician provides technical guidance on OSHA standards, industry best practices, and site-specific safety requirements. The position also supports training programs, conducts audits and inspections, and assists in accident and incident investigations with a focus on corrective action implementation.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 Conduct Site Inspections & Audits

  • Perform regular safety inspections of construction sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and local regulations.
  • Document findings and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Assist in stormwater inspections and maintain stormwater permit compliance.

Implement and Enforce Safety and Stormwater Programs

  • Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans,
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and all safety equipment.
  • Hold team members and subcontractors accountable for following Haselden safety and environmental stormwater requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA).
  • Support permit compliance related to environmental and safety standards.

Incident Investigation & Reporting

  • Respond to accidents and near-misses, lead investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and reports.

Safety Training & Education

  • Conduct orientation and ongoing safety training for employees, subcontractors, and site visitors.
  • Develop toolbox talks and lead safety meetings.
  • Lead weekly toolbox topics & site wide safety meetings.
  • Lead safety discussions in project POD meetings.

 Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Perform site risk assessments and work with project teams to eliminate or control safety risks.
  • Support planning for high-risk activities such as crane operations, excavation, confined space, hot work, silica etc.

Collaborating with Project Teams

  • Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and project managers to integrate safety into all phases of construction.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning and safety walk-throughs.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Maintain and test emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, spill response, and first aid readiness.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain logs for safety inspections, training attendance, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.

Promote a Culture of Safety

  • Encourage worker engagement in safety initiatives and support a proactive, behavior-based safety culture.
  • Recognize and reinforce safe behavior through positive feedback and incentive programs.
  • Be a team player.

 

Job Requirements:

  • The position is currently based full time on the Western Slopes of Colorado. Travel to projects will be required, which may include overnight stays depending on location. Ability to travel is necessary.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in commercial construction and/or previous experience as an onsite safety for construction sites.
  • Independence and reliability.
  • Ability to learn, interpret and apply Haselden Construction Environmental & Safety programs.
  • Ability to develop relationships and become a trusted partner of our EH&S team and field operations teams.
  • Effectively communicate with internal employees, subcontractors and site supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and present technical instructions
  • Problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Complete knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Ability work at elevations, climb ladders, use scaffolding, wear fall protection and work in inclement weather.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, with ability to translate is highly preferred but not required.
  • OSHA 30 HR Construction minimum with OSHA 510/500 trainer credentials preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting site inspections, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Stormwater training/certifications preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with high-risk activities such as crane lifts, excavation, confined space entry, and fall protection systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

 

Salary:

The salary range for this position is $75,000- $85,000 per year depending on experience and work history. Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and certifications.
