Job Description Summary:

This individual is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of remote patient monitoring (RPM) programs, including Virtual Care Management, the Centralized Monitoring Unit (CMU), and the electronic Intensive Care Unit (eICU). This leadership role ensures the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered telehealth services, integrating advanced technology to enhance clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction. The Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinical, IT, and administrative stakeholders, to drive innovation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Working with the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, the Director has the responsibility to plan, direct, and coordinate all activities related to telehealth services and remote patient monitoring for the hospital system.
Duties include, but are not limited to, responsibility for leading the design and implementation of process improvement strategies related to Virtual Care, RPM, telehealth delivery, motivating and guiding cross-functional teams, working with multiple levels within the organization to effectively understand challenges, formulate creative options, and implement measurable solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides direct supervision for the clinical managers, case managers, nurses, patient monitor technicians, telehealth team, and support staff to achieve the optimal clinical and financial patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for RPM, Virtual Care, CMU, and eICU programs aligned with organizational goals.

  • Recruits, trains, and mentors a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, technicians, and support staff for Virtual Care, CMU, and eICU operations.

  • Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) for clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

  • Evaluates and reports the clinical and financial effectiveness of the RPM programs, including CMU, eICU, Virtual Care, and Telehealth for the hospital system.

  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to develop evidence-based protocols, workflows, and standards for RPM and virtual care delivery.

  • Works closely with IT and our vendor teams to select, implement, and maintain RPM technologies, including telehealth platforms and data analytics tools.

  • Identifies opportunities to expand telehealth services, improve patient outcomes, and optimize resource utilization.

  • Completes annual performance evaluations of the RPM Staff.

  • Gives input into the evaluation of the performances of other staff members.

  • Designs and prepares special reports as requested by the CEO, COO, CIO, CNIO, Medical Director, and other leadership as required.

  • Serves as a liaison to the Quality Outcomes Director, Quality Outcomes Manager, and Quality Outcomes Specialists.

  • Assures that quality concerns are reported to Quality Outcomes by the Case Managers.

  • Work closely with Risk Management in reporting issues as appropriate in an effort to decrease liability to the organization.

  • Prepares operational and capital equipment budgets and maintains the department within budget.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards and functions relevant to RPM, case management, and telehealth services

  • Evaluates and implements policies and procedures related to all the various functions of the departments.

  • Stays abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure program excellence and compliance

  • Manage the process to improve readmissions and help with ED diversion.

  • Ability to utilize community services when applicable.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid Tennessee Nursing License required; BLS required, Telehealth certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years of current experience in a clinical setting, telemetry, or ICU required.  Previous management experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of accepted nursing procedures as acquired through 3 years of clinical experience in order to recognize appropriate care interventions for all ages of patients.

  • Knowledge of the assessment of data, planning, and coordination of care that will impact the fiscal management of patient care, as acquired through on-the-job training.

  • Knowledge of hospital policy and operations, medical and nursing staff procedures, hospital and community resources, as acquired through on-the-job training.

  • Proficiency in the use of a desktop and or laptop computer and applications such as the internet, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
