The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for the organization, administration, continued development, evaluation and effectiveness of educational programs presented to staff, physicians, patients, families and caregivers, and the community. The Director is responsible for the management of the online learning system as well as the organization and provision of staff instruction and will act as a liaison to educational institutions and coordinates student rotation schedules with the hospital directors. This team member is the American Heart Association Coordinator for the facility AHA Training Center, and manages the AHA processes for BLS, ACLS, and PALS programs and instructors. The incumbent manages the American Red Cross resuscitation processes. In addition to providing CE opportunities for staff this position is responsible for managing the onboarding, General Orientation, and nursing orientation processes. As an active member of the Chest Pain Committee, the Director provides heart health education for staff and the community. The team member takes an active role in supporting staff development and retention and is also responsible for not only collaboration on development and retention initiatives but also develops innovative approaches to improve the program’s effectiveness.
Essential Functions
Consistently demonstrates a thorough knowledge of nursing practice and effective presentation skills in conducting orientations (student, clinical annual reorientation), community programs and other staff development programs to enhance the knowledge and skill base of the learner.
Effectively maintains patient education resources and serves as the internal consultant for educational needs.
Efficiently Manages AHA program needs, including coordinating classes and instructors, maintaining supplies, processing and evaluating paperwork, upholding the QI process, reporting results, etc. Functions as AHA Training Center Coordinator.
Appropriately performs and responds to education needs assessments and utilizes information in making decisions regarding program development.
Appropriately utilizes a variety of teaching techniques, methodologies and media to engage all learning styles and enhance educational programs.
Evaluates programs on an ongoing basis, tracks data and implements changes based on feedback.
Consistently ensures accurate and timely reporting of educational activities including completing and processing program documentation.
Frequently demonstrates effective and innovative problem-solving skills in order to support staff educational needs.
Appropriately establishes and maintains two-way communication with peers, staff, volunteers, students, physicians, and management.
Successfully demonstrates knowledge and appropriate utilization of computer-related activities and software including MS Word, PowerPoint, Records, Excel, Internet, Intranet, etc.
Consistently demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
Actively participates in personal and professional development opportunities to increase effectiveness in the educator role.
Willingly performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education
License & Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
National Institutes for Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
