About Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI) 

Located at Monash Health within the Monash Health Translation Precinct, the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI) is a collaborative partnership between Monash University and Monash Health. MCHRI utilises public health research as well as the translation and implementation of clinical, health services and public health knowledge, underpinned by cross sector end user engagement, to deliver health impact. 

MCHRI's core themes include Women's and Children's Public Health Research, Diabetes and Vascular Medicine, both of which cover clinical, health services and public health research, an Implementation and Healthcare Improvement Program and a Research Methodologies Platform, both specifically targeting and strengthening the clinical research programs. 

MCHRI engages broadly with the Government, the Academic Health Sciences Centre, University Faculties, Independent Institutes, NGOs and community groups, patients and community to bring a breadth of expertise and perspectives to address challenges in health, to drive innovation and to deliver improved patient experience and health outcomes. 

 

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to support the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI) in delivering innovative, evidence-based digital health solutions that improve health outcomes and equity. As a Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and user-friendly applications that underpin MCHRI’s research and implementation initiatives. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of developers, engineers, researchers, clinicians, and project managers to translate complex health research needs into effective digital tools. This role requires strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for using technology to drive real-world health impact. You will also contribute to the development of digital infrastructure, data systems, and platforms that support research translation and implementation science. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing digital IT team within a leading academic health research centre, where your work will directly contribute to improving lives through digital innovation.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The following responsibilities/accountabilities deliver our National Standards. Refer to the Clinical Governance Framework for more information. 

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities 

  • Carry out compliance and improvement against the key elements of quality and safety 

  • Be responsible for quality of care at point of care 

  • Manage project data management timelines and tasks, ensuring deliverables are met 

  • Develop and maintain high-quality software solutions in alignment with MCHRI’s mission to enhance health systems and clinical implementation. 

  • Liaise with internal and external project stakeholders 

  • Participate and co‐operate in consultative processes to improve health and safety 

  • Observe safe working practices and as far as you are able, protect your own and others’ health and safety. 

  • Monitor the operations and continuous improvement of the Monash Health Occupational Health and Safety Management System within area of responsibility and provide a safe and positive workplace 

  • Complete all necessary personal training and professional development requirements. 

  • Contribute to a positive and high-performing team environment. 

 

About You

Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the IT field 

  • Experience in developing web applications using front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React. 

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, track, and manage development tasks using tools like Jira, Trello, or similar. 

  • Familarity with version control tools, like GIT. 

  • Understanding of WCAG accessibility standards, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility 

  • Familarity with AWS, especially AWS S3 and Amplify, basic understanding of serverless environments. 

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve software issues. 

  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid Agile environments. 

  • Familarity with software quality assurance processes including unit testing, integration testing, UAT, and regression testing. 

Desirable:

  • Exposure to Python  or other programming language for backend scripting, automation or data handling 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines 

  • Knowledge of content management systems 

Qualifications/Registrations/ Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s and postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline; 

  • Current Victorian driver’s licence 

  • Cloud architecture 

  • Keep up to date with the latest development software, tools, frameworks and libraries 

  • Full‐stack web technologies, programming languages, codes and processes 

  • Versioning tools, in particular GIT 

  • Best practice front‐end and back-end security standards 

  • Testing and debugging tools and procedures 

  • Agile development and DevOps oriented process 

  • Team based development and knowledge sharing in multi-disciplinary environments 

 

Intimate knowledge and experience with 

  • The Software Engineer is expected to: 

  • Collaborate effectively with other team members, and project stakeholders. 

  • Translate user and research requirements into secure, accessible, and performant digital applications 

  • Participate in sprint planning, documentation, and quality assurance processes. 

  • Apply robust QA practices by participating in code reviews, supporting UAT and post-release validation. 

  • Provide guidance to team members to encourage work productivity. 

  • Follow internal standards and design guidelines aligned with MCHRI systems. 

  • Proactively manage their workload and timelines to deliver project goals. 

  • Participate in review and maintenance of documentation, technical specifications, and system support materials. 

  • Contribute to innovation, continuous improvement, and solution-oriented problem solving. 

  • Communicate effectively, both technically, and non-technically, with diverse collaborators 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining procedures that support quality, reproducibility, and usability across all digital products. 

  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment or independently. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proven ability to meet operational and project targets 

  • Ability to participate in the development of procedures 

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships, a safe environment, innovation and productivity improvement.
