Description

Samford University is seeking a Development Officer to join our team. In this role, you will lead strategic fundraising initiatives, fostering meaningful relationships to secure major gifts and planned giving support for our schools housed within the College of Health Sciences. The ideal candidate has an unwavering commitment to philanthropy, outstanding communication skills, strategic acumen, and a results-driven approach to achieving goals.

Job Duties

  • Serve as a development officer representing the four schools within the College of Health Sciences (Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Health Professions).
  • Maintain individual prospect activity, perform prospect research, track goals, and analyze data in the University’s database which is currently Blackbaud’s Fundraiser Performance Management. 
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of 100-120 prospects to secure major gifts of $25,000+.
  • Complete a minimum of 120 in-person visits per year to qualified major gift prospects.
  • Develop strategies for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of at least 20 major gifts per year from assigned or researched prospects to secure support for unrestricted giving, capital projects, scholarships, and other programmatic support.
  • Coordinate involvement of the deans and academic leaders in meaningful relationships with the prospects and other constituents as needed.        
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Development and other members of the advancement team to support and advance the mission, vision, and goals of Samford University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Expectations:
  • Possess technical competency to the level of being able to use the computer systems and databases for routine work.
  • Assist the CHS deans in identification and recruitment strategies for new advisory board members.
  • Maintain individual prospect activity in the university’s database which is currently Blackbaud FPM.  
  • Perform job duties with a positive and donor-centric approach and collaborate with university colleagues in a courteous and professional manner.
  • A commitment to the Christian mission of Samford University.
  • Ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong professional relationships with stakeholders. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel regionally and nationally and to perform weekend and evening work as needed. Air travel required. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise prudent judgement in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit fundraising.
