Dean, College of Health Sciences

Chatham University has an immediate opening for a Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS).  The Dean will be responsible for supporting the overall academic and operational performance of the College. Academic and administrative excellence, growth, and financial leadership are top priorities. The Dean leads the efforts of academic planning, faculty and staff development, resource development and allocation, alliance-building, accreditation and compliance, institutional capacity building, and productivity measurement and improvement. The Dean must be a strong communicator and leader within the College, the University and in the community. 

The Dean will perform a wide variety of tasks to ensure effective and efficient academic programming and growth, effective operations, and administration. Additionally, they will support leadership in development and integration of academic programs, monitoring and directing the flow of services and resources to all students, faculty, and staff. They ensure operational procedures are being followed and lead the continuous refinement and improvement of all CHS operations.

The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs to play a key leadership role in managing the academic integrity of program offerings, building and maintaining strategic academic and clinical partnerships, and stewarding the financial health of the College. The Dean will work with the Provost to ensure alignment with institutional expectations, values, and priorities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and promote the long and short-range goals of the College and its academic programs.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support for faculty development and advancement.
  • In collaboration with faculty, ensure quality academics in all aspects of teaching and learning (curriculum, delivery models, student learning outcomes, living-learning engagement, as applicable) and advising.
  • Encourage and reward the development of innovative new programs, initiatives and policies.
  • Build and grow student enrollment and support student success at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Plan and administer the College and department annual budgets and control expenses.
  • Assess needs for College and departmental resources and ensure that resources are planned for, acquired, and properly implemented.
  • Support the overall strategic operational processes for the College by working with vice presidents, chairs/program directors, faculty, and major committees to assure the delivery of high-quality academic services at the College level.
  • Assist in implementing annual and organizational goals and allocate operational resources to best support the academic goals in a manner than ensures the College’s fiscal and operational success.
  • Build and maintain a climate of operational excellence, professional integrity, interprofessional/interdisciplinary collaboration and, in doing so, support a climate of academic excellence.
  • Provide leadership and support relationship-building and the development of clinical, academic and community partnerships.
  • Provide leadership to fulfill goals for College and institutional advancement and philanthropy.
  • Support academic programs and faculty in pursuit of federal, local, and non-governmental grants and sponsored programs.
  • Provide leadership and support for the recruitment and retention of diverse employees.

Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related discipline within the College. 
  • Higher education administration experience including a strong understanding of academic program development, online learning, and distance-education.
  • Demonstrated leadership in accreditation processes.
  • Very strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Evidence of successful decision making in a collaborative environment.
  • A commitment to assessment, metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to furthering the mission of Chatham University through growth with quality.
  • Experience with budget management.
