JOB DESCRIPTION
Saline High School and the South & West Washtenaw Consortium seek a qualified educator to deliver high-quality, competency-based CTE Health Science instruction aligned with state standards and Career Ready Practices. This role prepares students for diverse healthcare pathways, including nursing, medical assisting, and therapy services, while building foundational knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient care, ethics, and healthcare systems. The instructor will integrate academic and technical skills, support work-based and experiential learning, maintain a safe and effective learning environment, and cultivate partnerships with industry and postsecondary institutions to ensure program relevance and student career readiness.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as detailed below:
- Standard CTE Certificate in Health Sciences through a CTE-approved program, CIP 51.0000 OR
- Annual Authorization/Endorsement in the assigned program and a minimum of at least four thousand hours of recent and relevant (last ten years) work experience in Health Sciences.
- If hired to teach under an Annual Career Authorization, the individual must begin the process of earning the required CTE endorsement in accordance with state guidelines within three years.
Preferred Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or Nursing.
- Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN)
- Additional certifications (e.g., CPCT/A, CCMA, Phlebotomy, EKG) are a plus
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification (through organizations like the American Heart Association).
Required Experience
- Hands-on experience in a healthcare setting, such as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, patient care technician, therapy aide, EMT, or paramedic.
- Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with coworkers and all stakeholders.
- Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency with computer applications for instructional planning, student assessment, recordkeeping, and communication (e.g., student information systems, grading software, email, presentation tools, and online learning platforms).
Preferred Experience
- Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience, preferably in a CTE, clinical, or technical education setting.
- Experience coordinating or supervising students in clinical rotations, internships, or work-based learning programs.
- Experience supporting diverse student populations, managing classrooms, and documenting student performance.
- Experience with PowerSchool.
- Use of Informed K12 or other electronic document management systems.
- Experience collaborating with staff and stakeholders across multiple locations within an organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Design, deliver, and continuously improve a CTE Health Science curriculum aligned with state standards and Career Ready Practices.
- Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that integrates academic and technical content.
- Adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including special populations.
- Monitor, document, and communicate student progress.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and program updates.
- Plan and supervise field trips, CTSO competitions, and other experiential learning activities, including overnight or weekend travel as required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized lab/classroom environment, including proper handling of medical equipment, mannequins, and supplies.
- Build partnerships with employers and postsecondary institutions, including articulation agreements.
- Participate in advisory committees and industry organizations to ensure curriculum relevance.
- Staying current with healthcare practices, certifications, and industry standards through ongoing professional development
- Strong focus on providing equity and access to county-wide CTE programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Accurately document and maintain records of student attendance, lab hours, and clinical/technical training hours to meet state licensing and program requirements.
- Manage the program budget, including ordering supplies, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Complete and maintain CIP self-review documentation to ensure program compliance with state and consortium standards
- Making quick, sound decisions in a lab setting to ensure student safety and proper technique.
- Communicating effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and industry partners.
- Managing classroom behavior and maintaining a structured learning environment.
- Demonstrate exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Use of Google Suite.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS
- Standing and moving around the classroom or lab for extended periods
- Demonstrating clinical skills (e.g., patient transfers, vital signs, basic care procedures)
- Lifting, positioning, and adjusting equipment such as hospital beds, mannequins, and simulation tools
- Assisting students with hands-on activities that may require bending, reaching, and light lifting
- Maintaining an active, safety-focused lab environment
EQUIPMENT
- Utilize and maintain industry-standard equipment, including medical beds, mannequins, and other clinical training tools, to support hands-on, competency-based instruction in the Health Science classroom.
- Ensure all equipment is used safely and effectively, provide student training on proper use, and maintain compliance with applicable safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
TRAVEL
Overnight and weekend travel required to support CTSO competitions, including supervising and monitoring students to ensure safety, appropriate conduct, and adherence to school policies.
