Cochlear Japan: The Japan operations (NCC) is one of Asia Pacific’s longest established operations, with the Tokyo office opening in 1989. Japan is an ageing country, and the ageing population is growing, leading to a higher incidence of hearing loss in over 65-year-olds. Hearing loss among the elderly is a huge opportunity. Our work in Japan focuses on raising awareness amongst the elderly whilst increasing better access and service to the Paediatric Market.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Clinical Specialist based in Nagoya, reporting to the Area Clinical Manager, Japan. In this role, the successful Clinical Specialist will have the opportunity to drive Tokai area business by providing your clinical expertise and working with field partners.
Accountabilities:
Accountability 1: Provide clinical expertise on Cochlear Implant and Baha systems to new and existing implant centers/clinics in Japan.
- Assist implant centers/clinics within Japan with advice, guidance, and training on patient candidacy, selection and evaluation, surgery, post implantation management, difficult/challenging cases, device programming issues, problems solving related to medical/surgical issues, device troubleshooting, etc.
- Assist centers/clinics with selection of suitable cochlear implant candidates and ensure understanding of the evaluation process.
- Assist in the provision of consultancy and counseling on difficult/challenging candidates and ensure management strategies are developed.
- Assist with the delivery of suitable training programs tailored to each center’s/clinic’s specific needs.
- Monitor and assess the quality of services provided by centers/clinics and identify when additional training or other interventions may be required.
- Work as an active member of Clinical Team for programmed introduction of new products to customers
- Responsible for device integrity testing and conveying the results to the managing healthcare professionals and the patient/family when appropriate.
- If telephone/e-mail queries relate to another regional division, ensure that the relevant team counterparts are fully informed through the customer support process.
- Ensure correct logging of every call into SFDC and share relevant information with colleagues when appropriate/necessary.
Accountability 2: Plan and run events in cooperation with account partners targeting both professionals and non-professionals in order to raise awareness of implantable hearing devices and to provide product information.
- Take an active role in preparing and running events targeting professionals to raise awareness of both cochlear implant and Baha systems, to introduce newly launched products, to promote proper use of such devices, etc.
- Actively participate in planning and running events targeting non-professionals for raising awareness of implantable hearing devices.
Accountability 3: Take an active role with account partners in the account management process in order to meet responsible business outcomes both in Cochlear Implants and Baha.
- Identify opportunities in market, customers and technology.
- Develop relationship with healthcare professionals
- Actively discuss and provide input from a clinical perspective in the process of account management
Accountability 4: Represent Cochlear Ltd at Congresses and Workshops
- Assist in the development and presentation of training modules for both external and internal use on specific areas related to cochlear implants and Baha.
- Attend congresses and workshops and actively participate as part of the Cochlear team.
- Assist with implementation of clinical education initiatives.
Accountability 5: Assist with clinical trials and research and development projects
- Troubleshoot new and existing products and provide feedback reports.
- Help develop clinical programming and habilitation resources
- Support validation and translation of software products and materials for the Japanese market.
Accountability 6: Provide clear and concise reports on time.
- Enter every call into SalesForce Health Cloud and report in a timely manner.
- Log issues in TrackWise and report them to RQR in a timely manner.
Key Incumbent requirements:
Minimum:
- Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in medical industry
- Strong enthusiasm for achievement of allocated budget
- Good selling and communication skills
- Result-oriented
- Ability to analyze and stimulate the market
- Good team player
- Ability to travel extensively
- Business level spoken and written English skill for Cochlear’s internal processes and for better understanding of product and evidence-based messaging.
- Demonstrate role model behavior as Clinical Specialist
Ideal:
- License in Speech-Language-Hearing Therapist or Registered Nurse
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in audiology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) or country equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and deadlines
- High level of energy and drive to achieve business outcomes
- Customer-focus
- Confident, mature and approachable style
- Ability to take initiative and build relationships
