POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Informatics Specialist supports the Informatics team in acting as a liaison between clinical workflows and information technology in the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of clinical systems involved with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated technologies. The Clinical Informatics Specialist supports Clinical Nurse Informaticists with enhancing workflow transformation, assessment, planning, design, re-design, validation, testing, evaluation, end-user training, implementation support, optimization, and adoption of clinical applications and processes. Being an advocate and a change agent is key to ensuring the maximum benefit of the EHR and its associated technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses effective communication for changes in standards, practice, or functionality and consistently closes the loop. Develops training materials for end users. Advocates for end-users while pursuing ongoing EHR initiatives. Serves as subject matter expert on EHR, functionality, and workflow. Recognizes and recommends solutions to improve clinical processes and works with departments to evaluate processes and workflows impacted by clinical systems. Identifies, develops, and revises policies and procedures related to clinical system workflow and software. Determines software or system functional specifications. Develops, documents, analyzes, tests, and modifies computer programs based on and related to user specifications. Documents, tests, and modifies computer programs related to operating systems. Responsible for issue identification, escalation, and final resolution. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with end users to ensure that EHR and other clinical initiatives support patient-centered best practices.
ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with testing, training, troubleshooting, and day-to-day operational support.
Gathers end-user feedback, helps with workflow documentation, builds job aids, and supports adoption of changes.
Escalates higher-level clinical or compliance concerns to the Clinical Nurse Informaticist or Applications Manager.
This role provides operational, training, and technical support for clinical applications.
Focuses on issue documentation, user support, and assisting in testing and training.
Pursues professional growth through educational opportunities, professional reading, and seeking learning opportunities.
Assure cost and time efficiency of the department by maintaining maximum productivity and cost-effectiveness.
Promote good interpersonal relationships through effective communication.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school in informatics, or clinical health related field. Experience in healthcare, information technology, health information management, or related field may be accepted in place of formal education.
A South Dakota driver's license is required.
