General Summary:

Serves as a facilitator, preceptor, and educator by providing clinical expertise to staff across the organization. Assists with onboarding and education of staff for clinical new hire orientation. Maintains records of orientation, in-services, and training activities. Contributes to the review, revision, and distribution of policies and procedures. Manages individualized goal-directed nursing education through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. 

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a department/unit teaching inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Educates staff 1:1 or in small groups to increase critical care skills
  • Works in collaboration with clinical leaders to assist with performance improvement plans for clinical staff when necessary, ensuring appropriate objective are outlined and met.
  • Works side-by-side with staff in clinical settings to evaluate individual and group performance during critical situations. Collaborates with ED, OB, Medical-Surgical, and ICU leadership to develop necessary PI activities.
  • Provides continuing two-way communication throughout the organization by listening and participating in face-to-face dialogue with employees in meetings, regular rounding throughout the departments, and escalating key findings to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation for education provided to staff.
  • Develops and implements department specific education (such as OB, Pediatrics, ED, and ICU) ensuring active participation during the education sessions. 
  • Actively pursues new developments in ED/OB/pediatric/critical care nursing and participates in activities that promote professional growth and development.
  • Collaborates with trauma coordinator, ICU, OB, and ED leadership to present critical care/trauma-specific education as needed.
  • Collaborates to develop and align high performance education programs for the clinical staff, in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for all clinical staff while following up with the new staff and preceptors to ensure all department education requirements and competencies are being met and validated.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities, as necessary.
