Job Description:

Description: The Behavioral Health Educator is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, and completion of specific educational projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. The Behavioral Health Educator serves as a resource and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the care and service to patients of all ages.

Typical Duties:

  1. Provides behavioral health education to members of the target audience per physician approved curricula.

  2. Develops and implements comprehensive behavioral health development/education plans and competency programs based on needs of staff and program.

  3. Provides individual teaching and counseling on health promotion and disease prevention; performs planning techniques and provides input about offering preventive health services, outreach activities and classes for individuals and groups

  4. Utilizes teaching aids, visual aids; prepares and distributes patient education materials

  5. Develops and revises curriculum, educational media and services.

  6. Collaborates with practitioners, nurses, and other members of the health care team to select and guide training needs for behavioral health promotion strategies across the continuum

  7. Documents information on records and reports according to departmental policies and procedures in a timely manner

  8. Interacts effectively with others within the Hospital District, other outside agencies, and the community.

  9. Maintains timely, effective communications with the department leadership regarding all events or proposed changes which might impact regulatory issues, census variance, policies or procedures.

  10. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:


    Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • 3 plus years of Behavioral Health Nurse preceptoring, teaching, healthcare education or staff development experience Behavioral Health Nursing.
  • OR
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited college or university.

  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state OR current licensure in one of the following: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners or the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
  • Current JPS recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment. May be obtained subsequent to hire.
  • Certification in Non-Aggressive Crisis Management; must be obtained while in orientation and maintained throughout employment.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master’s in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Advance courses in education and/or adult learning theory.
