JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director, Genetic Counseling Clinical Support provides strategic and operational leadership for clinical support services and laboratory case management. This role leads a growing team of genetic counselors and genetic counselor assistants to ensure exceptional customer experience, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational goals. The scope of this role may evolve as organizational needs change, with a focus on scalability, workforce development, and cross-functional collaboration.

This role exists to drive high-quality, efficient clinical support operations that enable organizational success. It interacts with internal clinical and laboratory teams, cross-functional partners, and external customers. Success is measured by strong team performance, scalable workflows, compliance with regulatory standards, and consistent delivery of high-quality clinical support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for genetic counselors and genetic counselor assistants to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve clinical support workflows, systems, and technologies to enhance case management efficiency and customer experience.
  • Define, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive performance improvement and support data-informed leadership decision-making.
  • Lead talent development initiatives, including recruitment, mentoring, performance management, and succession planning, to build a scalable and high-performing team.
  • Serve as the clinical subject matter expert for products and services, providing guidance on high-complexity cases and supporting operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with laboratory operations, medical affairs, commercial teams, and IT to ensure integrated and effective clinical support services.
  • Lead change management efforts for new service launches and process transformations to ensure clinical support readiness and adoption.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and internal quality metrics to mitigate risk and support operational integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Master of Science or Master of Arts in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably within a commercial laboratory environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Board-certified Genetic Counselor.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical and laboratory genetics, team leadership, and operational performance management.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading large or growing clinical teams in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
  • Experience supporting scalable clinical operations and enterprise-level initiatives.
  • Experience with customer relationship management platforms and workflow automation tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Location: Remote
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit and stand for extended periods; frequent use of hand and finger dexterity; ability to speak, hear, and use visual acuity for reading and computer work.
  • Work Environment: Office environment; occasional exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens or infectious materials.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel for training or meetings.
  • Special Conditions: Compliance with clinical and laboratory safety requirements.
