Associate Dean, Nursing & Health Sciences

The Associate Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences will provide visionary leadership for the continued development of the Nursing Department, its program, resources, and future direction in compliance with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN), and college resources.

The Associate Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences will ensure that the governing organization's mission, goals, and/or values are evident in the nursing program's mission, goals, values, and/or philosophy. While also ensuring that communities of interest have opportunities to provide input into nursing program processes and/or decision-making.

The following are typical duties assigned to positions:

• Plans, directs, evaluates, and oversees the administration of the academic program.
• Participate in district committees on various issues related to the program.
• Direct and coordinate activities of instructors, administrative staff, and others.
• Plans and implements for professional development activities for instructors.
• Supervises the preparation of catalog material for the academic program.
• Determines scheduling of courses and recommends implementation of additional courses.
• Assists in selecting, improving, and evaluating instructors; reviewing credentials; screening applications; and formulating recommendations for final interviews.
• Maintains current knowledge of and interprets and applies to Federal, State, and related legislation. Revises program administration to comply with regulations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

College Administration & Reporting

The Associate Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences will report to the Dean of Health Sciences & Public Services (Academic Division 2).

In addition to the Nursing Programs, the Associate Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences will have supervisory responsibility for the Director of Allied Health and Director of Radiology.

• Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Current nursing license for the state of Arizona (or eligible).
• Three years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.
• One academic year full-time teaching or administering a nursing education program leading to licensure.
• Leadership experience, in leading a team(s).
• An effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and computer skills.
• Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.

• Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) with an emphasis in nursing.
• Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
• Experience in nursing program accreditation (ACEN or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education - CCNE).
• Experience in programming and nursing curriculum development and instructional design.
• Experience as a nursing program director at the associate degree program level or higher, including managing department budgets, personnel, policy and procedure development, and grant writing.
• Three years or more of teaching experience in nursing at the associate degree program level or higher.
• Transformational leadership, team building, staff building, and organizational skills.
• Ability and desire to be a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader to help inspire change.
• An understanding of the role of information technology, informatics, and other learning modalities in educating the next generation of nurses.
• An ability to advocate effectively for the nursing profession and education within the college and at the local, state, and national levels.
• Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
