YOUR TASKS
- At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation regarding tailored prevention and treatment of lung diseases in the general population. Asthma is a common disease in Belgium and overweight, smoking and air pollution are major risk factors contributing to disability-adjusted life years for respiratory disease in Belgium. There is a need for better prevention and modification of trajectories leading to obstructive lung disease and poor disease outcomes in the adult to elderly population. Within this doctoral project, you will contribute to the collection of data (risk factors, medication and lung function) from adult people in the general population. The aim of the data analysis is to identify risk factors and prevention strategies that improve lung health in the community.
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically the following Dutch courses: Pathophysiology I-IV and Design of Clinical Studies.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a degree of Master of Medicine in Medicine, Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Care, Drug Development or equivalent degree. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
- For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
- You are interested in epidemiology, biostatistics, pulmonary diseases, clinical pharmacology, and academic and/or project-based research and services.
- Publications or a master's thesis on risk factors for lung diseases or prevention of chronic complex diseases are recommended.
- Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
- You have excellent teaching and communication skills.
- You have strong interest and/or experience in statistical data processing and have a thorough knowledge of R and/or SPSS.
- You demonstrate clinical and analytical ability to transform clinical problems into statistical syntax. Knowledge of and affinity with current evolutions in healthcare (both in the Belgian context and internationally) is important.
- You are able to translate scientific research into the professional practice of healthcare providers (both locally and internationally) and into the training of future healthcare providers.
- You have an independent, problem-solving, organized and result-oriented attitude;
- You possess the required social skills, flexibility and critical spirit to function in a multidisciplinary and international academic environment.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
