Applied Practical Experience - Violence Epidemiology

Under the supervision of the Chronic Disease, Health Behaviors, and Injury Epidemiology Section Chief epidemiologist, the person will be responsible for conducting literature search on violence prevention, analyzing data related to Advance Violence Epidemiology in Real-Time (AVERT) and Georgia Violent Death Reporting System (GA-VDRS) to identify populations at highest risk to gun violence within the Metro Atlanta Regional Area. The individual will create social media messages to raise awareness on gun violence and provide evidence-based intervention.  The individual will participate in producing video (2-3minutes), fact sheets and infographic addressing population at highest risk.  

Job Duties and Responsibilities (overall tasks and expectations of the position):

The Violence Prevention Intern is expected to be experienced in creating data visualizations; and interpreting and communicating data findings to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.  This intern will be collaborating with external partners to present his findings synthesized from literature review and analyzing Georgia specific violence data.

Duties will include:

• Preforming Literature Review.
• Performing data analyses using the GA-VDRS and AVERT
• Developing Video (2-3 minutes)
• Creating factsheet and infographic.
• Provide a summary of 3 evidence-based violence intervention programs 
• Provide lessons learned from the selected evidence-based intervention programs.

Currently an MPH student who completed at least one year

Experience working with analytical software

Experience working computer software such as Canvas

Experience working with Microsoft Office
